Go and Make Disciples

Scripture Reference: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

The Great Commission: A Call to Action

When Jesus spoke these words, He wasn’t offering a suggestion—He was giving a command. Known as the Great Commission, this call to action is central to the mission of every Apostolic believer. It reminds us that our faith isn’t something to keep to ourselves; it’s meant to be shared.

Jesus begins with the word “go.” This word signifies movement, effort, and intentionality. To fulfill the Great Commission, we must step out of our comfort zones and reach people where they are—whether in our neighborhoods, workplaces, or across the globe.

Baptizing in Jesus’ Name

As Apostolic believers, we understand the importance of baptism. While Matthew 28:19 mentions baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we know from Acts 2:38 that the Apostles baptized in the singular name of Jesus. This is because Jesus is the full manifestation of the Godhead (Colossians 2:9). Baptism in His name is the key to salvation, as it washes away our sins and identifies us with His death, burial, and resurrection.

To be baptized in Jesus’ name is not merely a ritual; it is an act of obedience and a public declaration of faith. It signifies the beginning of a new life in Christ and is central to fulfilling the command of the Great Commission.

Making Disciples

The Great Commission doesn’t stop at baptism. Jesus calls us to make disciples—to teach and equip others to follow Him. This requires time, commitment, and a willingness to share the truth of God’s Word. Teaching others to obey His commands ensures that the Gospel continues to spread, generation after generation.

As Apostolic believers, we don’t only share the message; we demonstrate it. Through prayer, worship, and Spirit-filled living, we show others what it means to walk with God. Our lives should be a testament to His love and power.

His Promise: "I Am With You"

Jesus concludes the Great Commission with a promise: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” When we step out in faith to share the Gospel, we are never alone. The Holy Spirit empowers us, guides us, and gives us the boldness to fulfill His mission.

The Apostolic message is rooted in this assurance. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to overcome obstacles, face challenges, and boldly proclaim the name of Jesus to a world in need.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you take steps to fulfill the Great Commission in your daily life?

  2. Have you been baptized in Jesus’ name, as commanded in Scripture?

  3. Who can you disciple and teach about the truth of God’s Word?

Closing Prayer

Lord, we thank You for calling us to be part of Your mission to reach the world. Give us the boldness and wisdom to share Your Gospel and make disciples. Help us to live in obedience, empowered by Your Spirit, as we baptize and teach in Your name. Remind us that we are never alone, for You are with us always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
